There is so much to see and do in Thailand!

  Primary Destinations
Look at the many advantages to retirement in Thailand.  The warm weather is great year-round.  Thai people are very courteous and friendly.  The food is fresh and can be mild or spicy, according to taste.  Thailand's government is receptive to retirees from other countries.  Elders are respected and socializing is comfortable.  There is a lot of recreation.  The culture is steeped in history and tradition.  Thai hospitals and doctors are excellent.  A visa is easy to obtain.  The cost of living is quite favorable for Europeans and North Americans.

This visa is specifically for retirees coming to Thailand, but beware of web sites that quote this visa on their pages because there is only one true authority and that is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.  There have been recent changes regarding the dependents of retirees.  (more)

Phuket   Thailand has most of what you will need.  There are modern pharmacies and grocery stores for your health and hygiene needs, but there are a few things you should know.  One is that vitamin supplements are a rare commodity in Thailand.  You will find vitamin C and some multi-vitamins but, unless you can read Thai, you will not know the quantities.  Imported supplements are available but hard to find and very expensive due to an extremely high import tax.  So, if you rely on supplements, bring what you need with you.

If you play golf and plan to play in Thailand, be sure to bring golf balls with you.  You can find off brand balls here for about the same as premium balls at home, but balls like Titleist, Nike and Callaway are very expensive.  Golf hard goods and accessories by name brand companies are also very expensive, so have what you need.  Soft goods, like golf shirts and caps, slacks and shorts, are typically bargain priced compared to what you have experienced at home.

Shaving supplies and deodorants from your home country may be hard to find since the selection is limited on imported items and again, imported items tend to be comparatively expensive.  If you wear extra large sizes, especially in underwear and shoes, you would be well advised to bring what you require with you.  The market, and consequently the availability, for such sizes is limited in Thailand.  This would apply to belts as well.  (more)
